VMXNET 3是VMware虛擬的網路卡，效能較好，要使用它，最好要安裝  VMware Tools，

VMXNET 3只支援使用Virtual Machines Version 7或更新版本的某些作業系統：

• 32- and 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows XP,7, 2003, 2003 R2, 2008, and 2008 R2
• 32- and 64-bit versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.0 and later
• 32- and 64-bit versions of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 and later
• 32- and 64-bit versions of Asianux 3 and later
• 32- and 64-bit versions of Debian 4
• 32- and 64-bit versions of Ubuntu 7.04 and later
• 32- and 64-bit versions of Sun Solaris 10 U4 and later 

E1000 是模擬 Intel 82545EM Gigabit Ethernet NIC，作業系統不支援安裝 VMware Tools，請選 E1000。

網路上也有人說 如果CPU有支援[Intel(VT-x),AMD(AMD-V)]，網卡類型優先選擇VMXNET 3，否則選E1000。

ESX/ESXi 3.x and 4.x 提供 Buslogic and LSI Logic 等兩種，一些老舊OS提供 Buslogic，例如 Windows 2000，新OS沒有 Buslogic，但有 LSI Logic，例如 Windows 2003/2008，當您選定 MS-Windows 種類後，ESX會幫您選擇合適的 SCSI 卡。

ESX/ESXi 4.x 新增 LSI Logic SAS 和 VMware Paravirtualized (PVSCSI)，舊卡改名為 Buslogic Parallel 和 LSI Logic Parallel。LSI Logic Parallel 相容性較佳，LSI Logic SAS 和 VMware Paravirtualized (PVSCSI) 較快，如果要使用 Windows 2008 架設叢集 (Cluster)，可以用 LSI Logic SAS。
